In recent years, painting about connectedness with the land has become a part of my art practice. I have an ongoing series of landscapes created using paper and thick paint. The beginning point is often a photograph I’ve taken during travel. My imagination takes over within the paintings and soon becomes an amalgam of memory and exploration. The mood is joyful and becomes a space for both nostalgia and hope. Collage elements include a vintage chart, a map, polka dot paper, and a letter my dad wrote to my mother when they were engaged.
